What We Do!
Black Outside, Inc provides a variety of programming to (re) connect youth of color to the outdoors. Our programs are crafted, influenced, and executed by a diverse team of volunteers who collectively ensure each outdoor experience is not only culturally relevant but inspires a love of the outdoors.
Camp Founder Girls - In the summer of 2019, Black Outside, Inc proudly resurrected America's first summer overnight camp for black girls: Camp Founder Girls which began in San Antonio, TX. Today Camp Founder Girls carries on the proud legacy of Founder Girls past by providing an immersive week-long overnight camp centered on bravery, confidence, creativity, and strength.
Brotherhood Summit 2020 - Since spring 2018, collective of driven Black male teachers and mentors convened Black male students from across San Antonio for a day of mentorship, community-building, and leadership development. In the spring of 2020, Black Outside, Inc will facilitate the third annual Brotherhood Summit as an outdoor retreat.
Bloom Project aims to create a space of communal healing for youth impacted by incarceration by facilitating healing-centered outdoor experiences and culturally relevant environmental education that will help them envision new possibilities for their lives, for their communities, and for our world.
Eastside Explores - Black Outside, Inc partners with schools on the historic eastside of San Antonio to craft day-long outdoor explorations centered on social-emotional skill development. Eastside Explores allows students to expose students to a variety of outdoor spaces including local and state parks.
